Day 10 Update – 21 Day Sugar Detox

Well, here we are on Day 10 of the 21DSD and I’ve obviously failed miserably at providing daily updates.  :)    The good news is that I’ve not failed miserably at the 21 Day Sugar Detox.

I became aware of several things, one which really surprised me, by the end of the first week:

1) I don’t miss chocolate.    I had ramped up to eating dark chocolate way too often during the holidays.  I was busy and it was my comfort food.  Like daily way too often.  And I don’t miss it at all.    I was eating WAY too much of something that I don’t miss at all.  I’m not saying I’ll never eat it again, but it’s going to be relegated to a once or twice a month treat.

2)  I do miss having my nightly cocktail but I need to tweak that a bit.  I was drinking mostly red wine.  I love even a mediocre Malbec and the Argentinian Malbecs are usually pesticide free, even if not certified organic.  But I also love the American Harvest Organic Vodka, especially with lots of ice and a dash of fizzy water and would have it only occasionally.  I’m going to reverse the ratio because of the higher sugar content in the red wine.

3) I have sugar issues.  This came as no surprise.  When I first went Paleo, I limited my fruit intake to one or two servings a day.  During the holidays, as with the dark chocolate increase, the one to two servings a day inched up to 3 to 4 servings a day.  Plus sweet potatoes.  I love sweet potatoes.   And I was always hungry.  After the detox, I am going to continue to limit my fruit – two servings a day, unless I engage in serious physical activity, with sweet potato counting as a fruit.

Did I mention I don’t miss chocolate?   You can’t imagine how bizarre that is to me.  Or maybe you can.

So how are y’all doing?
